FLEXIBLE PACKAGING

V.F.F.S. (Vertical Form, Fill & Seal) – Bagging

A popular and cost effective packaging format for a wide variety of food and consumer goods, both wet and dry, is bagging, where roll stock film, printed or plain, is converted over a forming tube into a package with a heat or ultrasonic seal on the top, bottom and back of the package. The simplest and most common style is referred to as a “Pillow Pack”. These systems are generally integrated with either a rotary combination scale, auger, volumetric or liquid filler to dispense the products into the formed package, in either continuous or intermittent motion. Package design variations include block bottom, gusseted or Doypak forming to create a more stable package for on-shelf presentation. Zipper closures for resealability are also a common feature on these styles of packages. This packaging technology is capable of producing up to 175 packages per minute.

H.F.F.S. (Horizontal Form, Fill & Seal) – Flow wrapping

Also a popular and cost effective format for a wide range of food, bakery, confectionary, consumer, and industrial products, this employs the same basic principle of roll stock film converted over a forming box and heat or ultrasonically sealed to create the finished package. Product is loaded, manually or automatically, into a flighted infeed conveyor upstream of the continuous motion film forming section. Production speeds of up to 600 packages per minute can be achieved with this technology.

H.F.F.S. (Horizontal Form, Fill & Seal) – Pouch Forming

This style of H.F.F.S. incorporates a vertical product delivery system and does not have a back seal as in V.F.F.S. baggers and H.F.F.S. flow wrappers. It can incorporate fitments for product dispensing and is also the most popular technology to create a bottom or side gusset stand-up pouch. Resealable zipper closures are also popular on this style of packaging. Production speeds of up to 300 packages per minute.

PRE-MADE STAND-UP POUCH - SUP

For shorter production runs with frequent product, or package size changeovers are required, pre-made stand-up pouches are most popular. Providing maximum flexibility for the small to mid-size manufacturer, these rotary or linear configured systems can run at up to 80 packages per minute.
