PRODUCT FILLING - LIQUID

ROTARY

Rotary fillers are generally used for rigid containers (PET, PETE, HDPE, LDPE and Glass) for applications where filling speeds exceed 75 per minute and can run at speeds up to 1200 per minute. This filling technology is used for a wide variety of products including sauces, syrups, oils, juices, water, distilled spirits, free flowing foods, and industrial/consumer products in both hot and cold condition. Some products have a foaming characteristic that requires the nozzle tip to descent to the bottom of the container before the valve opens to dispense the product. The nozzle tip stays immersed in the liquid during the dispensing function as it retracts to eliminate overflow caused by the foaming. This method is referred to as “bottom up” filling. These systems can be a stand-alone filling system or incorporate rinsers, cappers and other closure formats in a monoblock or tri-block configuration. CIP (Clean in Place) sanitation systems are also routinely used when multiple product formulations are required to insure no cross contamination.

PRESSURE GRAVITY

Using a mechanically operated valve to start and stop the flow of product to achieve a pre-determined fill volume. This technology is widely used where excess product needs to be re-circulated in the bulk delivery supply tank.

PISTON

A precision machined cylinder and sealed piston is charged with product on the intake stroke and dispensed into the container in the discharge stroke. Volume is adjusted by the stroke length of the piston and can provide accurate, repeatable filling.

NET WEIGHT

Each fill station includes a high precision load cell to measure the tare weight of the empty container. During the filling cycle, these load cells feedback the precise weights in each fill station to the nozzle that will partially close to achieve a very accurate fill volume based on total weight of the individual container and product. Accuracies of +/- 1g can be achieved on fill volumes up to 4 litres.

MASS FLOW / FLOW METER

Comparable in accuracy to the Net Weight filling technology, a electronic metering assembly is used to precisely measure the flow of product through the valve. These systems are the most technologically complex method of achieving accurate, repeatable filling.

IN-LINE

For liquid filling requirements at less than 75 containers per minute, an in-line system is the generally accepted design. Ranging from a single to 12 nozzles in configuration, container are indexed into the filling station and registered under the nozzle assembly using a pneumatically controlled container stop. Once the containers are in position, the entire nozzle/valve assembly descends so the nozzle tube is inserted into the container opening. Once this function has been completed the valve opens and the product is dispensed. Most in-line systems operate with either a pressure gravity or piston style of product measurement method of dispensing the product.
