CORRUGATE PACKAGING

CORRUGATE PACKAGING – AUTOMATIC CASE PACKING

The majority of packaged goods are packed in corrugate shipping cases for distribution to market and to insure the integrity and protection of the products during transport to market.

TOP LOADING

A corrugated RSC (regular slotted case) with major and minor flaps is erected and presented to the product loading section of the machine. Product from upstream primary packaging is collated/stacked into the desired pack pattern and transferred vertically, using either a gantry or robotic loading device that incorporates either an mechanical or vacuum style of tooling. Case sealing (hot melt glue of pressure sensitive tape) can be integrated into this operation or be a downstream stand-alone module. This case packing technology is generally an intermittent motion operation and can achieve production speeds of up to 25 cases per minute.

END LOAD

Products presented from upstream primary packaging operation in a single file configuration are collated/stacked into the desired pack pattern and then mechanically transferred on a horizontal axis into the corrugated shipper. Corrugated configurations include die-cut wrap around blanks, RSC’s, HSC’s and a variety of other corrugated shipper designs. Available in either intermittent or continuous motion, this case packing format can achieve production rates of up to 80 cases per minute.

BOTTOM LOAD

Similar to top load in preparation of the corrugated RSC case, this style of case packer presents the collated product from beneath the open case position and elevates the product into the case prior to the case sealing operation.

CORRUGATE PACKAGING – SEMI-AUTOMATIC CASE PACKING

For lower output case packing requirements, a semi-automatic case former, loader and top bottom sealer for RSC style cases where an operator presents the case blank to the pneumatically operated case former module and hand loads the product in the specified pack pattern into the erected case. Once the product has been loaded into the case, it is indexed to an integrated top and bottom case sealer using either pressure sensitive tape or hot melt glue to complete the closure/sealing of the case.

CORRUGATE PACKAGING – AUTOMATIC CASE ERECTING

A case erector has a bulk case magazine for flat case blanks that then indexes one blank at a time, mechanically opens the case and folds in the bottom minor and major flaps. Once the case has been formed it is indexed to a sealing module incorporating either pressure sensitive tape or hot melt glue to seal the bottom of the case. The case is then transferred to downstream operations for product loading. Production rates of up to 30 cases per minute.

CORRUGATE PACKAGING – TRAY FORMING

In an effort to reduce secondary packaging costs, many retailers and manufacturers have employed corrugate trays, with or without shrink-wrap for the delivery of the finished good products to market. There are many different tray designs that incorporate stacking and nesting capabilities to maximize load stability during transport. Hot melt glue is the preferred method of sealing the various elements of the die-cut corrugate blank to form the finished tray prior to transport to the product loading operation. Production rates of up to 60 trays per minute.

CORRUGATE PACKAGING – CASE SEALING

Available in either semi-automatic of fully automatic configurations, case sealing employs either pressure sensitive tape or hot melt glue to seal the top and bottom major flaps of a standard RSC style corrugate shipper. Production rates of up to 45 cases per minute.
